At MADE Houston, one of our main goals is to successfully transition our students to mainstream schools - both private and public. Our commitment to our students extends to assisting in the transition process. Determining when a student is ready to transition involves open discussions between faculty and families throughout the year. Specifically, our faculty and staff look at whether students are meeting academic and social expectations for their age and grade level. Moreover, we take students’ emotional and social development into consideration when making decisions about appropriateness and timing for a transition. Parents are encouraged to share plans and wishes, including when they believe that students are ready for the next step.
Parents, teachers, and staff work collaboratively to monitor students’ progress and development. Integral to our school mission is the role we all play in preparing and supporting students and families for transitioning to their next educational endeavor. This support includes finding the next school that is the right for students.
Each Spring and Fall semester we hold a Parent Education Meeting to review all steps that are involved in the application process to middle and high schools. These meetings are meant as informative stepping stones to subsequent in-depth discussions with families to tailor the transition process to the individual student. In addition, our team can assist in:
We encourage families to reach out anytime with any questions or concerns related to transitioning.
